Simplify Your Life with Self Storage

July 20, 2021

Living with clutter, or with generally muddled and untidy surroundings makes life far more stressful than it needs to be. You can’t control all the stress-inducing elements in life, so it makes sense to identify and tackle the ones you can. Clutter is definitely on the list of the things you can blitz and here’s how self storage could help!

One Eye on the Future

Life changes. It’s just about the only thing in life you can depend on, and coping can be a challenge. We all know this, that’s why we keep hold of possessions or pack too many clothes when we go on holiday. It’s the ‘just in case’ factor.

Trouble is, all those things saved for a rainy day or for some future event must be stored somewhere. Having a self storage room handy gives you just the space you need to keep hold of all kinds of things.

From baby equipment and nursery furnishings you’re saving for new family additions, to the guest bedroom furniture you only use once or twice a year, they’re costly to replace. But when they’re at home, they’re taking up valuable space you could put to better use.

Maybe turn the guest bedroom into a home office or hobby room for most of the year, or free up space in the garage or loft for things you use more often. Using self storage when life changes, or when you’re anticipating that change in the future, makes planning or dealing with the unexpected far easier.

Living From Season to Season

· Do you have to rummage through your winter woollies to find your summer lights?

· Is your under-bed storage filled with winter duvets during the summer?

· Does your garden furniture look like it needs replacing every spring after being outside all winter?

· Is your garage so full of bikes through the winter that there’s barely room for the car?

These are just a few examples of how life’s necessities claim all our space and mental energy.

Lots of people these days are taking a seasonal view of their possessions, rotating items in and out of their self storage room according to the season. Suddenly the house and garden are less cluttered, spaces feel airier and brighter, it’s quicker to find what you’re looking for, and easier to keep everywhere clean.

And with storage rooms being available in a multitude of sizes, it’s easy to pick exactly what you need, then make changes if sometimes you want to store more stuff than normal.

Destressing a House Move

Seling your house and moving home is one of the most stressful and complicated things we do on a fairly regular basis. Self storage during a house move really helps you calm things down and take the process more in your stride and in a timeframe that suits you.

Start your packing early, with things you don’t use every day. From kitchen stuff to clothes, toys, furnishings, ornaments, or collectables.

This has a double advantage. Not only is a lot of packing already done, but you’ve gone a long way towards clearing the decks, depersonalising, and staging your house ready for viewers. We’ve all heard the advice to clear the clutter, polish and clean until everything gleams, and generally make as much of a show home as possible.

It’s a pretty tall order but removing all those things makes it so much easier, while keeping the homely things you love safe and sound.

With most storage facilities being very handy in towns, if you make a mistake and pack something you need, it’s quick to fetch it back. Just make sure you label your boxes properly with what’s actually in them — don’t just write ‘kitchen stuff’, for instance, write bread machine and coffee maker.

Nurture Your Business

Entrepreneurs will know how a tiny, home-based business can soon make you feel like you’re living at work rather than working from home. Especially if you’re reselling or creating items for sale.

Any time you deal with stock, it has to be stored somewhere. Self storage can help here too. Lots of facilities offer storage for business users, and don’t mind if you bring in free standing shelving or cabinets to house your wares. You may even find they’ll accept deliveries for you if you’re not there when stock arrives.

The simple addition of self storage can streamline your business or side-hustle, restoring your work/life balance and letting home be home once again.

The space you gain from having self storage opens more space at home than you’d think. And having more space makes for a much more relaxed, simple and stress-free lifestyle.
