Practical Things To Do To Keep Your Home Warm This Winter

Keep Your Home Warm – Consider The Layout of the Room

The layout of your room is really important if you want to help make sure that your heating is working as efficiently for you as possible. For example, if you have a radiator switched on but in front of it you have placed a large sofa or your bed is blocking it then the chances of the heat being generated reaching the room is really low. Try to rearrange your room to make sure that your radiators are clear and then the heat from your heaters can flow into the room as efficiently as possible.

Keep your home warm

It might sound like a small change but you will notice the difference – when you put on the heating rooms will heat up much quicker if radiators aren’t blocked.

Keep Your Home Warm – Be Energy Efficient

There is no avoiding putting on the heating at this time of year, but with the rising cost of energy bills, it makes sense that you do what you can to ensure that it works as efficiently as possible. Smart heating systems can be a great bet if you can afford one – they allow you to control individual radiators within your home so that you don’t have to have every radiator on just because your heating is on.

You can even switch on the heating while you’re away from home – so you can arrive home to a nice warm house. Being energy efficient is a must – keep internal doors closed, close curtains where possible and make the most of all of the heat you are generating – for example, keep the oven door open once you have finished cooking ad the oven is off – some of that heat will help heat your home and its free, so a win-win!

Keep Your Home Warm – Make Sure you Have Insulation

Roof and wall insulation is a must – it can seem like quite the investment when it comes to getting the whole thing done, but the difference you’ll notice in how well your heating works makes it all worthwhile. Remember that your heating being more efficient also means that you’ll need to have the heating on less and so you will save money on your heating bills in the long term too! There are also some Government grants that you can get which might help towards the cost of these, so that is something worth looking into as well.

Keep Your Home Warm – Check on Your Boiler

Without a doubt, regular boiler maintenance is a must. The last thing you want is to wake up on a freezing cold winters day and realise that your boiler is broken – leaving you without heating and hot water. Instead, get your boiler serviced by experts on a regular basis to help avoid this from happening. Of course, you can’t always avoid problems so having the details of a reliable plumbing company is a must.

Ideally, you want a company that can fix the problem or assist you with new boiler installation if you need one. Make sure you choose a company with national engineers so you can be confident they’ll be able to help you quickly and efficiently – of course, they need to be Gas Safe registered too!

Keep Your Home Warm – Look After Yourself

We aren’t always in a position to be able to have the heating on as much as we would like to; so looking after yourself is a must. Lots of layers and plenty of hot drinks are a must. Even a hot water bottle placed in your bed a few minutes before you get in can really help! Make best friends with blankets and have these all over ths house so that you can wrap up warm wherever you are. Don’t worry, it will soon be the shortest day and with that comes the hope that spring and better weather will soon be with us.

If you have any tips for how you intend to keep your home warm this winter we’d love you to share them below
