The environment blesses us with the beauty that we get to surround ourselves with. But as seen on the tv, our environment is getting weaker with animals going extinct and our ozone layer collapsing. Pollution levels rise every day and are creating serious problems for our children’s future, let’s look at how to raise an environmentally conscious child.
However, there is a solution. As well as doing our part ourselves to be better towards the planet, raising environmentally conscious children will ensure that the pain we have put our planet through may slowly be eased. Here are some tips from a private school in Letchworth on how to raise an environmentally conscious child.
Start within the home. Teach your child what is wrong with the environment and simple things that can be done by individuals to help with it. Recycling is an easy one to start with. Explain how to separate materials and what can and can’t be recycled. Turn it into a game and see how much your child can recycle by the end of the week. Allow them little rewards to keep their actions repetitive.
Things You Can Do at Home
Be energy aware at home. It is so easy to waste energy in the home without realising and the negative effects it has on the environment is massive. Teach your child to turn the tap off whilst they brush their teeth, turn off the tv if they’re not watching it and turn off lights if no one is in the room.
Watch educational tv shows to allow your child to visually see what is wrong with the environment. This inspires them and allows them to see the world from a different perspective, which is important as a child’s world is little, developing and always curious. There are many entertaining tv shows and documentaries that they can watch which will create a new interest in your child.
Grow your own fruit and veg. Most supermarket produce is imported and packed in unnecessary amounts of plastic which is terrible for the environment. Get them in the garden and show them with some love and patience, you can grow your own organic fresh produce which not only costs a fraction of the price but is at your disposal.
