Whether you’re working from home full-time, you just want to work on your own project in the evening or you’re a self-employed freelancer, making space to work from home can be tough. Most of us can find space on our dining table to work from on a temporary basis but it’s mostly uncomfortable, doesn’t give you any privacy and can disturb the rest of the family – so what can you do to make working from home a little easier?
Set Boundaries
Working from home can be a great chance to get back a little work/life balance but it is important to set boundaries from the off-set. For example, just because you are home doesn’t mean that you’re around to do chores for the family – make sure they understand that you are working and that they should treat it as though you are away at the office unless there is an emergency.
With all of your work equipment with you, it can be tempting to dip in and out of work during the evening and weekends – but this can really eat into your relaxation time. Instead, when you have finished work do your best to pack everything away and forget about work until you’re due to start again.

Invest in Office Space
If you are going to be working from home long-term then it is important that you invest in a workspace that you are happy and comfortable in. Not everyone has a spare room that they can turn into an office so it is about being inventive and looking at what works for you. If you have an outdoor space then investing in a garden room is definitely something to consider. Garden rooms have come on leaps and bounds over recent years and can now be fully functional, insulated, connected to electricity rooms. A garden room office means that you have a secure space to work from while avoiding the hustle and bustle of the rest of the house.
Embrace The Experience
Working from home for the first time is a very new experience and can be quite daunting. For most people, it works out as a preferable way to spend their workday, but you may need to speak a couple of weeks tweaking things to make it work. Working alone, without someone looking over your shoulder or feeling as though you’re accountable for every move you make throughout the day can be a really nice feeling so embrace it, stick with it and make any changes you need to make things work.
