What To Watch This Summer – A lot of us have spent more time than ever watching the television of late, so you’d be forgiven for thinking that you’ve seen it all. But of course, you haven’t. Below, On The Soap Box has shared some of her top summer viewing suggestions. Here’s our take on what to watch this summer.

Give the soaps a chance
Whilst many productions have ceased, or delayed production, the nation’s soaps have carried on. Aside from short breaks during lockdown one, the soaps have continued to produce regular drama in a covid-secure way. The writing has been phenomenal too, with some important social topics being explored, including hate crime (Coronation Street) and FGM (EastEnders).
As well as important, hard-hitting storylines, there’s been humour too, providing viewers with a bit of escapism. So if you never usually give the soaps a try, maybe now’s the time.
Live sport
Live sport is making a slow, but steady comeback, meaning that there’s plenty available to enjoy from your armchair. Many of us have missed sports and even if you’re unable to attend in person, at least you can take it in from your living room. From the delayed Euro 2020 tournament to the Wimbledon tennis championships, there’s plenty pencilled into the television schedule over the coming months. Sports programming is a great way to solve the question of what to watch this summer and one which can develop your children’s interests in sport and extracurricular activities.
Consider a new subscription
If you’ve spent the past 12 months watching Netflix and you’re now struggling for inspiration, then perhaps it’s time to look at a new subscription service.
Have a look at what Now TV and Amazon Prime have to offer and consider them as an alternative. That way you’ll have even more to choose from and you can always switch back after a couple of months.
Have a look at the boxset section
BBC iPlayer and 4OD both have boxset libraries that app users can access. They change periodically too. So have a browse and see if a gem from the past catches your eye.
Rewatch an old favourite
The flow of new television coming through has naturally slowed down, making this the perfect time to revisit an old favourite. It could be that you decide to rewatch every episode of Friends, or that you take Breaking Bad from the start. One thing’s for sure, there’s a lot that you’ll spot that you didn’t the first time around!
Television is coming back, but there’s plenty to enjoy in the meantime!
