5 Simple Ways to Encourage Learning

December 2, 2022

If you’re looking at ways to encourage learning then you have come to the right place. Most of us can remember back to our school days and how some lessons were better than others. Although our favourite lessons were based on many things, the way that things were taught definitely made a difference to most of us. We want to be able to enjoy lessons and whilst that looks different for everyone, if you’re looking to encourage learning then it’s definitely something to keep in mind.

Keep Learning Fun

Although there is definitely a serious side to learning and times when yu have to knuckle down and get on with it, keeping things fun is definitely recommended. Everyone learns in different ways, so varying things is one of the best ways to keep everyone interested. Use printed posters, make use of YouTube, encourage different activities and have a little fun while you do it. Mxing things up and keeping your kids interested is one of the best ways to ensure they stick to learning and are motivated to do so.

Make Use of Resources

Whether you’re a school teacher, a home school parent or someone that is about to get involved in a child’s education making use of the resources that are available is a must. After all, no one can expect you to be able to set up lessons, design the worksheets and do the teaching – no one has enough hours in the day to do that. Thankfully places like Creative Fabrica make it easy for you to find everything you could need in one place – which makes life even easier.

Creative Fabrica have put together the Teacher Club Card, which allows anyone who subscribes access to over 12,000 teaching resources. Once you’re a fully-fledged member you can browse through all of their resources in order to make to pick out the ones that work best for you. Download 5 of them a week for use in your own learning set-ups. With 260 unique resources at your fingertips every year, you would be forgiven for assuming that it’s going to be costly to be a club member.

Actually, their membership works on a cancel-anytime basis so there is no lengthy commitment to be a member – that said, it’s just £2,99 a year! So for less than £3, you can make use of 260 teaching resources every single year! How incredible is that!?

Set Targets

If you want to encourage learning then setting targets works well for many young people, so definitely something worth considering. It could be that your target is based on how long you want them to learn for – for example, let’s do this section for 15 minutes and then we’ll move on to something else. You could also set targets on grades or facts that you want them to research and learn. You’ll get to recognise how different children learn and be able to tweak the targets you set them accordingly.

Make sure that you set firm targets and what is expected of them if you’re looking to encourage learning. If there is any doubt in what is needed from them they will use this as a way to get distracted and that won’t help in your learning targets at all.

Give Rewards

Alongside targets, giving rewards for a job well done and something to aim for can work really well. This could be a team prize if you’re teaching a classroom of kids or something a little smaller if you’re a parent who homeschools. There are so many different rewards that you can opt to give them and much like setting targets, you’ll start to get an idea of which rewards you offer that kids respond the best to.

You can set up reward charts, give out gold stickers or arrange certificates to give out in assembly. You’ll work out what works best for the kids you are teaching, but generally making a big deal of the fact that they have earned a reward works really well.

A Positive Approach

Teaching can be just as tricky as learning but that doesn’t mean you can afford to have a negative attitude. Approaching everything with a spring in your step and a passion for the day is something that your kids will respond well to. Be positive and excited about what you are teaching them and what you want them to learn and in many case your passion for the subject will rub off on the kids you’re teaching.

If you have ideas on different ways to encourage learning then we’d love you to share them
