The five-strong panel was chaired by one of the book’s editors, Ray Ryan, whose essay on John McGahern’s That They May Face the Rising Sun is the last in the book and who led the debate featuring Faber’s Lee Brackstone, critic James Wood, who chose to discuss Ian McEwan’s Atonement in TGOTN, Faber author Frances Wilson (Hanif Kureishi’s Intimacy), and Amit Chaudhuri (Arundhati Roy’s The God of Small Things).
