Canongate’s Digital Future
Canongate is embracing the fast moving and ever-changing digital age…
We have undertaken an extensive programme to create ebooks from our backlist and we are converting all of our frontlist titles as they are published, making them available from all the major digital retailers. We want to give our readers the best of our content, using the new technologies and devices which are being made available.
We have also partnered up with Enhanced Editions to develop special reading applications of selected titles for the iPhone, launching with The Death Of Bunny Munro by Nick Cave in August 2009 (free sampler). This groundbreaking app includes synchronised unabridged audio read by the author with an exclusive soundtrack by Nick Cave and Warren Ellis – which enables the reader to switch between text and audio at the push of a button without losing their place – as well as embedded videos of Nick reading.
We are also excited to announce that we have made forthcoming Canongate audiobooks available on audible.co.uk and iTunes – Dreams From My Father by Barack Obama and Cave’s The Death Of Bunny Munro.
We have two extra special releases in the first half of 2010 – for Easter Philip Pullman will give voice to his provocative new book The Good Man Jesus And The Scoundrel Christ, and we’re remastering a gem from the Canongate vaults: originally released in 1996, we are re-publishing The Driver’s Seat by Muriel Spark, read by the incomparable Dame Judi Dench. Cited by Spark as one of her favourite books, it tells the story of Lise, who escapes her mundane life in an accountants’ office for a life of wild abandonment which becomes a sinister head-on flight towards self-destruction.
It’s a brave new world, so come and join us online at meetatthegate.com, Twitter, Facebook, MySpace and YouTube!
