The June Competition [closed]

A knockout set of prizes to commemorate the launch of Bookhugger in our inaugural competition – from famous first novels to lots of author-signed works.

Faber FirstsThis month’s prizes are:

  • A set of all ten Faber Firsts. To celebrate Faber’s 80th birthday, Faber Firsts is a series of ten republished paperbacks of great Faber debut novels, each one styled by contemporary designers to match classic eras of Faber’s design history – referencing the likes of the great Berthold Wolpe, Barnett Freedman, Edward Ardizzone and Edward Bawden
  • From Canongate, we have author-signed trade paperback copies of Emergency, by Neil Strauss, and Richard and Judy pick The Gargoyle, by Andrew Davidson (read a review on our sister site, Bookgeeks)
  • From Gallic Books, we have two copies of The Elegance of the Hedgehog, by Muriel Barbery, recently released in paperback after its great initial success in Summer 2008
  • From Sceptre, we have five signed hardback copies of Glen David Gold’s Sunnyside
  • From John Murray, we have 10 signed hardback copies of Martyr, by Rory Clements – an Elizabethan thriller featuring John Shakespeare, chief intelligencer in the secret service of Sir Francis Walsingham (look out for an extract soon here on Bookhugger)

Here’s how we are sharing out this fabulous haul:

  • One lucky person will get first prize – the set of Faber Firsts, plus signed copies of Martyr and Sunnyside
  • The next four people picked out of the hat will win copies of Sunnyside and Martyr, as well as a choice of one of the Canongate or Gallic titles each (choices will be offered to winners in the order they are drawn)
  • Five more winners will get signed copies of Martyr

To be in with a chance to win, answer the following simple questions correctly. All of the answers can be found somewhere on the website.

  • Question 1: Muriel Barbery and her husband have moved to which town in Japan?
  • Question 2: In James Masalyk’s blog about his work in Sudan, which animals were the first to leave the country when war broke out?
  • Question 3: What is the name of the community magazine that the staff of The Bookseller Crow on the Hill help publish?
  • Question 4: What does the slogan say on the poster of Winston Churchill in Nicolas Rankin’s video about his book Churchill’s Wizards?
  • Question 5: What is the name of the narrator in Andrew Sean Greer’s The Story of a Marriage?
