It’s Independent Booksellers Week
The 15th to the 22nd of June is Independent Booksellers Week – so find out what’s going on at an independent bookshop near you.
Over 200 local bookshops spanning the country are signed up to take part in the week which is being organised by the Booksellers Association (BA) – the national trade association for booksellers. Independent Booksellers Week is a celebration of the passion and dedication demonstrated by independent bookshops, and will take place in stores from the Orkney Islands to Cornwall.
The initiative, which took place for the first time last year, features booksellers demonstrating their flair, creativity and community involvement through in-store promotions and events staged throughout the week. Events will range from author talks, children’s storytelling, creative writing workshops, to authors taking a turn behind the tills in “Strictly Come Bookselling”. So far nearly 80 authors are showing their support for the week including: Kate Adie, Matthew Hoggard, William Fiennes, Susie Orbach, Chris Mullin, Robert Rankin, Katherine McMahon, Michael Arditti, Jake Arnott, Santa Montefiore, Jay Rayner, Mark Billingham, Sarah Waters, Carol Drinkwater, Jeremy Kyle and Patrick Hennessey.
You can find out which shops are taking part at the IBW website – we hope you find something that gets you down to a bookshop near (or not so near) to you…
